Today BAIA was hauled out and put up on a stand for maintenance. Alex did some checks on the rudder by drilling holes and there is water inside as shown on the survey. So that will be repaired an keel inspection will be done to ensure that is in order.
These are some of the ‘before’ pictures, as BAIA will be polished too so she’ll look a lot younger when the local service company is done with her. And I’m excited to share some progress pictures although I’ll probably not be around for the end result as I have to fly to Athens the 27th.
The goal is to get BAIA ready for her trip to the Canaries in September/October.
One also might notice that the name “BAIA” is removed from the stern. I did this last week so that part can be polished too. I’ll make a nice new sticker in a better font than “Comic Sans” because I really hated that look.
installed new anode
Apparently I hit something in the water as there was some minor damage halfway down the keel. Probably a piece of wood or metal in the water.
There were minor cracks in the caulking of the keel joint and after stripping the caulking some water came out from between the hull and keel.
So the keel will be inspected thoroughly.
The prop and saildrive were cleaned with Stripspeed and ready for Propspeed coating. Also a new anode is installed and a proper volvo penta lower saildrive “streamline” flap will be installed instead of the poor caulking job that was there.
The keel inspection went okay: no issues. I’m happy with that! Moving on 🙂
Today was probably one of the last days I’m able to be at BAIA to see some work being done. As this Saturday I will fly to Athens to start my ‘job’ as a charter captain for the season. But it was nice to see progress and make some pictures.
This is the end of this post. I will probably get some pictures when things are done and I’ll post them in a separate topic as there is still a list of things to do. The guys are doing a fine job and it’s great to see them work on BAIA. And I am curious to see the result when I’m back in September. Although I might fly back sooner as I have one week off in July. But that depends on availability and schedule of flights.
